Back to the Blog!

March 15, 2010

Hello everyone! Sorry for the very wimpy start on this blog, and for the very long hiatus. The excuses are many and varied, but the important thing is that I am now back and looking forward to reinvigorating this blog.

Fun news this week is that I had my very first article published in the Morning Sentinel in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. You can check out the article here.

It has been so great to hear from those loyal Morning Sentinel/Kennebec Journal readers who remember me from growing up in China and Waterville. I’ve heard from old friends, teachers, professors and my lovely extended family. I really enjoyed writing about my two homes!

Stay tuned for more travel writing in the Central Maine papers over the spring and summer. Michael and I are planning a few trips (Amsterdam, Galway and Leicester, England) and I’m hoping to convince the editor at the Sentinel and KJ to let me be their European correspondent. Fingers crossed!

The Circus Comes to Town

June 29, 2009

This morning, Michael and I woke up to this new arrival across the street from our apartment. It’s called Tom Duffy’s Circus and I can’t quite figure out how they put it up so quickly. No circus last night, circus this morning. Mysterious. So far it’s not noisy, but since it’s pretty much in our front yard, I think we’ll hear it soon!

#9 Clontarf Road

June 28, 2009

This is number 9, Clontarf Road. Just under the stairs is the door to our first home, affectionately referred to as the Hobbit House. The lowest window is our living room window. The blue door leads to the orthodontist practice that lives above us. The trash bins are no longer there, which makes our view much nicer. Across the street and just to the left, we look out on Dublin Harbour. There are walking and biking paths that run along the coast for miles to the north, and south on our road takes you directly to the City Centre. Straight across the road is the the Clontarf Road DART station, which is what the train service is called. Our gym, called Westwood Clontarf, is just across the street to the right toward the City Centre. Michael found our apartment in the week before I moved to Dublin and it is a lovely first home for us. We are slowly decorating and making it feel like home.

The Plan

June 28, 2009

A couple of very wise people have been suggesting for some time that I should be keeping a journal of my adventures and observations in this move to Dublin. So, while I’ve been here for 8 months already and haven’t started, today is the day. My plan is to start recording what happens from here on out, and remembering some of the important moments and memories since I got here. It has been a big change moving from China Village to Dublin – new husband, new country and new life all in one fell swoop. This will be my journal of the ups and downs, differences and similarities, excitements and setbacks. So, as they say here in Dublin, you’re very welcome to my new blog.
