I am happily home in Maine, enjoying the late spring sunshine now that the weekend of torrential rain has stopped. I made it just in time to see my little brother graduate from college, and to celebrate my grandmother’s 85th (!) birthday with my family. It’s been a great, relaxing long weekend after a slightly manic busy spring.
There’s only one tiny thing I’m missing from Dublin at the moment (other than my lovely husband who arrives this weekend!), and that’s peony season. I absolutely love when the peonies come out in our neighborhood, but I left right before they really bloomed. I even stole a few buds from our neighbor (sorry, Graham!), but they took ages to open and I had to hop on my flight to America before they reached their fullest potential.
I’ve been consoling myself with these photos from a wedding I helped with a few weeks ago. They’re not as much fun as having big, fat peony blooms in a vase on my desk, but they’re close. Don’t you just want to squeeze them?
I love this photo, even though it’s a little over-exposed. I think the petals are just so beautifully paper thin and delicate.
It’s also just the tail end of lilac season here in Maine, which is almost equally amazing! Tell me, what’s blooming in your area at the moment?

There still are lots of bluebells around me in Cork!
The peonies are beautiful, and I always loved lilac season in Maine. Here in western North Carolina, my irises are in full bloom.
We almost have irises, dark purple and light purple. Lovely!
these are beautiful <3 i need to go to the flower market to get me some of these lovelies. I recently went to the botanical gardens and the tulips, bluebells and azaleas were out, it was amazingly pretty! Enjoy the family time and the lilac's incredible scent x
I’ve been seeing peonies in the flower stands on Grafton Street! Even easier maybe? They had incredible fat white ones 🙂
oh thanks for the tip! might kill two birds with one stone and fit a sneaky shopping session too 😉 x
Here in Ohio honeysuckle along the highway is lovely and the dianthus in the garden look like a color I’d like on my nails!
Ooh love honeysuckle! Not sure what dianthus is so will have to look that up now!
Just beautiful Emily! I adore peonies too, the walled garden in Marlay Park has some lovely ones 🙂 I love the hawthorn blossom all over the country at this time of the year, it’s so beautiful in big clouds of white that smell like summer!
Beautiful photos Emily! I love peonies too, I had them in my wedding bouquet 🙂
